Anukul Chandra Chakraborty, also known as Thakur Anukul Chandra (14 September 1888 – 26 January 1969) was a Bengali religious preceptor. Anukul Chandra is the father of an organization called ‘Satsanga’. He was born in Himayatpur in Pabna district of British India, which now belongs to Bangladesh. He started his career as a doctor in Himayatpur and this profession brought him unprecedented success. But he does not only treat the body, he treats the mind. He realized that in order to permanently alleviate human suffering, all three types of physical, mental, and spiritual diseases need to be treated. He started treatment for mental illness.
He became the friend of the helpless and neglected people. He founded Satsanga and explaining the significance of the name of the organization, he said- ‘people who are honest and attuned to integration are satsangis, and their meeting place is Satsanga’.
Inspired by the spiritual inspiration of Thakur Anukul Chandra, people came in groups and accepted his discipleship. Himayatpur Satsanga Ashram, established by him, became well known in the subcontinent. Seeing the activities of the Satsangha, Mahatma Gandhi highly praised of this organization.
This great religious Guru was a disciple of Sri Sri Huzur Maharaj, a yogi from northern India. Thakur left his body at Deoghar in Jharkhand, India on January 26, 1969 at the age of 81, at his ashram.
