Rabindranath Tagore was born on May 7, 1861, at Jorasanko Thakurbari in Kolkata. His father was a Brahmin scholar, Debendranath Tagore and his mother’s name was Sardasundari Devi.
The features of Rabindranath’s poetry are- depth of spirit, spiritual consciousness, tradition-affection, nature-love, human-love, patriotism, world-love, romantic beauty consciousness, sense, language, rhythm, and contextual diversity, real consciousness and consciousness of progress. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his English translation of the poetry book- ‘Gitanjali’. His writing of two songs ‘Aamir Sonar Bangla’ and ‘Jonogonomono Adhinayaka Joy He’ are the national anthem of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Republic of India respectively.
Rabindranath’s 52 poetry books, 38 plays, 13 novels and 36 essays, and other prose compilations were published in his lifetime or shortly after his death. And also his writings of 95 short stories and 1915 songs respectively included in the compilation of ‘Galpoguchchha’ and ‘Gitobitan’. All published and unpublished works of Rabindranath have been published in 32 volumes called ‘Rabindra Rachanabali’.
