Someone told him ‘craftsman of beautiful’, someone says, ‘wizard of words’- He is an empire of Bengali literature-Short story writer, novelist Jyotirindra Nandi (1912-82). He was born in Brahmanbaria district. Another eminent literary Adwaita Mallavarman (1914-51) was born in the same district. Nandi was born on poverty and needy family like Mallavarman. His name spread as Galpik after the publication of his short story ‘Nadi O Nari’ in 1936 at the age of only twenty-four. Jyotirindra was a disciple of fiction writer Manik Bandyopadhyay and poet Jibanananda Das. The characters of his written stories and novels have come from the diverse area of low and low middle life. Most of his written novels based on the economic turmoil and moral degradation of the lower middle-class urban Bengalis.
He had another kind of psychological theoreticality in the short story writing. There was no match for anyone. He knew the nature with a delicate feeling.

This author was honored by the Ananda Puraskar in 1966 and Suresh Chandra Memorial Award in 1965 by Anandabazar Patrika.
