The emergence of the Bangla language of popular literature surrounds the Bottala. It was the original location of the printing and publishing industry of Kolkata. It is currently the name of a police station in Kolkata. The origin of this name is surrounded by a vast banyan tree in Shobhabazar-Chitpur area. The printing and publishing industry of Bengal started here in the nineteenth century. The print and publishing industry that was developed in this banyan tree and its surrounding areas, it mainly met the demand of general and semi-educated readers. According to their taste, the books such as Puthi, Panchali, Pangika, Purana, Lok Kahani etc. were published from here. And the books which were published from here were known as ‘Bottala Puthi’ in the poorly.
