With the establishment of the Bangla Department of the University of Burdwan (1960) an attempt was made to collect Bangla Puthi. As a result of that effort, about three hundred books have been collected. An early list of puthies was also prepared. That was a very short list because there weren’t many puthi then. Later, after collecting several puthies, Bengali Puthishala were formed.

Bangla Department U. G. D. of C. S. A. Received grant for publication as per project. From that grant, this book called ‘Bangla Puthi’ was published. This is the first vol. This section gives a descriptive list of 100 books. The puthies are mainly collected from different villages of Bakura, Birbhum, and Burdwan districts. However, most of the puthies are collected from Bankura district.
