This famous writer was born on December 11, 1924 in Bikrampur, Dhaka. His real name is Surathnath Basu. He used Kalkut and Bhramar as a pen name.
He received the Ananda Award in 1959 for his special contribution to literature. And won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1960 for his novel Shambh (1978), written under the pseudonym ‘Kalkoot’. He was a prolific writer on various subjects and forms.

His first short story “Adab” was published in 1946 in Shardiya Patrika “Parichay”. This is his first composition. And he wrote his first novel ‘Nayanpurer Mati’ in 1946 but Published in 1952. His last novel is “Dekhi Nai Phire” which he could not finish. His detective character ‘Gogol’ is very popular for children. He has written 100 novels and 200 short stories
