In Bengali children’s literature, many stories have been written about Colonel Niladri Sarkar, so many stories have not been written about any other detective character till now. However, Syed Mustafa Siraj did not write detective stories in the beginning, nor did he write literature for children.
In fact, the life of Mr. Siraj is very diverse and he was from the Murshidabad area. His heart would be filled with the beauty of the village, like swamp, field, vast basin of Dwarka river, the trees, the colorful birds, the butterflies, the grasshoppers, etc. And occasionally flocks of ducks fly in the water of the swamp. In the light of the moon, the boy Siraj thought that the team of fairies was coming down. Shepherds, fishermen, farmers, laborers are all his friends. In contrast to all this, studying in school, educated sophisticated environment at home.
Another of his virtues was that he would sometimes disappear from home to a friend’s house or a distant relative’s house. He was also addicted to watching Jatra-drama, and also reading books in the library. Many kinds of people in the village-town that he has seen! He was able to sing songs and he learned to play the flute from a bearer when he was in school. This versatile man was the master of the Alkap-team for a long time. ‘Alkap’ is an operatic folk song of the Murshidabad region. At that time he has seen many incidents with this team and has known many people. As a result of all these is his literature. All the priceless books we have received from his pen.
