Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar (26 September 1820 – 29 July 1891) was an eminent Bengali educator, social reformer and prose writer in nineteenth-century. Ishwar Chandra Bandyopadhyay is the real name of this great Bangalis. He received the title Vidyasagar in his early life for his outstanding scholarship in Sanskrit language and literature. He was the first to reform the Bengali script and make it logical and understandable. He is also the first substantial creator of Bengali p
on the other hand, Vidyasagar was a social reformer. His tireless struggle to eradicate social curses like ‘widow marriage’ and ‘circulation of female education’, ‘polygamy’ and ‘child marriage’ is still remembered with due respect.
