Manik Bandopadhyay was one of the greatest novelist of the twentieth century in Bengali literature. He was born on May 29, 1908 at the Dumka of Santalpargana in Bihar. Forename was Probadh Kumar Bandopadhyay, the main themes of his compositions were artificiality of the middle-class society, the struggle of the laboring people, fatalism etc. December 3, 1956 at the age of just forty-eight years old, his soul has gone to the heaven. In this short time he wrote fourty two novels and more then two hundreds short stories.
