Navneeta Dev Sen was born in 1938 in ‘Bhalobasa’ house, South Kolkata. At birth, Rabindranath Tagore named her Nabonita. Traveling to Europe at the age of twelve, with father Narendra Dev and mother Radharani Devi. She received her B.A. degree in English from Presidency College. And she did M.A. in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University. First in first class. Next year she married economist Amartya Sen. MA in Distinction at Harvard. Ph.D. in Indiana. Thereafter professor of comparative literature at Jadavpur.

The first book of poetry: ‘Prothom Pratyaya’ (1959) The first novel ‘Ami Anupam’ was published in 1976 at Shardiya Anandabazar. She is also the author of many books – stories, essays, travel stories, teen literature.
