Harinarayan Chattopadhyay was born on 23 March 1916 in Bhabanipur, Kolkata. Shortly after his birth, his parents took him to Burma. He lived there for twenty-five long years. After 1940, like many other Indians, he and his family left Burma and returned to Kolkata.
Harinarayan Babu wrote several novels about the Burma of his childhood, adolescence, and youth.
This eminent author wrote a lot of novels like ‘Batase Barud’, ‘Shahare Bandare’, ‘Abhisarer Lagna’, ‘Banakpoti’, ‘Aloke Timire’, ‘Meghloke’, ‘Madhyahner Megh’, ‘Mayur Mayuri’ etc.
His notable story books are Saptakanyar Kahini, Swapna Manjari, Mrigashira, Prajapati Mann, Jonakir Deep, Surbahar, Shankhalipi. He was a writer of exceptional character.
