Swami Vivekananda (January 12, 1863 – July 4, 1902, father given name- Narendranath Dutta) was an Indian highly educated Hindu monk and a prominent disciple of the nineteenth-century Hindu cleric Ramakrishna Paramhangsa. He took a leading role in introducing India’s Vedanta and Yoga philosophy in the Western world. He has also made a special contribution to raising awareness of one another’s religion among people of different religions in the 19th century and making Hinduism the status of one of the major religions in the world. Vivekananda was one of the pioneers of the Hindu Renaissance in India and the proponent of nationalist ideas in British India. This great monk established the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission.
