Sukanta Bhattacharya (1926-1947), a young poet who believes in Marxist ideology and is a progressive conscious person. He was an outstanding popular and powerful poet of modern Bengali literature. The original motivation of his poetry are- sad tribulation pain of dominated country and dream of exploitation free independent society, the exploited people’s life and the struggle for the future world. His first poetry book is ‘Chharpatra’ (1948). He used to pen against the communal riots, World War II, tetallisher Monwantar, fascist aggression. He became a member of the Communist Party of India in 1944, in that year a compilation book- ‘Akal’ was published under his editorship. As a trusting poet in the Marxist consciousness, Sukanta made an unique position in Bengali literature by writing poetry.
Specially significant among his writings are- ‘Purbabhas’ (1950, ‘Mithekora’ (1951, ‘Abhijan’ (1953), ‘Ghum Nai’ (1954), ‘Hartal’ (1962), ‘Gitiguchchh’ (1965) etc.
