The book ‘Wild Life of India’ has been given the name ‘Bharater Bonyo Prani (Wild Animals of India)’ in Bengali. But the book also mentions many animals that live not only in the forests of India but also in the hills and deserts. The author of the book is an Englishman. In 1928, at the age of twenty-three, Mr. E. P. Jee came to India with a job in a tea garden in Assam. He was still living in India after retiring from the job. His immense interest in the animals and birds of India and his strong love for them has kept him in this country.
In this book, he talks about many thrilling experiences and many interesting stories of those wild animals. Not with weapons, but with the camera in hand, he has shown a new kind of adventure here.
About two hundred animals and plants are mentioned in the original English book. Attempts have been made to give them Bengali names in this anubad book. Many animals do not have Bengali names, because they are unfamiliar in Bangla, or maybe not enough research has been done on them. In those cases, Hindi or local names have been given. If there is any difficulty in that, the English name given in the original book has been kept. Their English and scientific names have been added at the end.
