This Patua sangeet composer SriGurusaday Dutta was appointed as the collector of Birbhum from 1930 to 1933. He was then fortunate enough to collect from the Patuas of that district and all the rare Patageeti printed in this present book. He traveled to different villages of Birbhum and became acquainted with Patua and Patua sangeet along with other patterns of the rural culture of those places.
It must be admitted that in the rural art of Bengal, the multi-colored long paintings painted by the rural Patuas are the best and highest quality art. But it is now almost extinct due to the change in the social and religious customs of Bengal and the present education and culture. But even in this endangered condition, it can be said without a doubt that these ancient folk-songs are still one of the most glorious resources of the national life of Bengal.
