Rabindranath Tagore (Born on 7th May 1861 – Died on 7th August 1941) (25th Boishakh, 1268 – 22nd Shraban, 1348 BS) was a poet, novelist, musician, playwright, painter, storyteller, essayist and philosopher of Bengal. He is considered the greatest literary of the Bengali language. The Bengalis gave him such titles as Gurudeb, Kaviguru, Bishwaguru. His 52 poems, 38 plays, 13 novels and 36 essays, and other prose compositions were published in his lifetime or immediately after his death.
Rabindranath Tagore has left for us a huge assortment of seventy plays or drama type composition such as Gitinatya, Kabyonatya, Nrityanatya, Heyalinatya, Ritunatya, Tattwanatya, Prohasan, Rupantar, and Namantar. And it is worth mentioning here, everything written by Rabindranath to be performed these are all plays. In that sense music drama such as Balmiki Pratibha, Mayar Khela, dance drama-Shapmochon, Shyam, ritunatya- Nabin, Shrabongatha all these are plays. These are Rabindra Natak of the various form.
So we can see that Rabindranath has come up repeatedly and successfully in the field of Bengali drama-culture.
