Abanindranath Tagore (August 7, 1871- December 5, 1951) is a renowned Indian Bengali painter, aesthetics. Besides, he is also a seasoned writer.
He is the grandson of Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, Gunendranath Tagore’s youngest son, the grandson of Girindranath Tagore who was the third brother of Maharshi Debendranath Tagore. This famous man was born in the Thakur Bari of Jorasanko in Kolkata.
In 1890, he became a member of Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Khamkheyali Sabha’. He left college without taking the entrance exam. He then studied English, French, Sanskrit and Bengali literature in his own efforts. However, his special tendency was toward painting. He began learning painting to Gilardi who was a teacher of art school and Italian artist at that time. He taught drawing, pastels, and watercolors to this teacher. He then studied life studies, oil paints, etc. to English artist C.L. Palmer.
In addition to painting, he authored many books for young and elder. His first article ‘ Nabadurba’ was published in Nabayug magazine in Shravan 1311. The number of his published books is approximately twenty-six.
