Annada Shankar’s literary creation is full of diversity. Not only at the point of view but also at the point of thought his creations are ageless. Versatile emotionalism is the specialty of his composition. His works are rich with a diversity of topics. The subjects of his prose were history, literature, philosophy, socio-cultural, politics, and events in the contemporary world. In the article-literature, Annada Shankar was the successful successor of Bankim Chandra and Rabindranath Tagore. Although he was the writer of the Rabindra era but his writing style was completely different. He was a symbol of free-thinking, idealism, and good sense. This great author wrote against the partition, riots, and communalism. His essays combine with imagination and logic, love and conscience, homeland, world thinking, and science.
He enriched Bangla literature with the experience of his long life and he has written the essay, novel, short story, travel story, rhyme, poem, play, pamphlet, autobiographical works. The number of his novels is twenty-two. The first published novel- ‘Agun Niye Khela’ (1930). His writing novel Satyasatyo was the first epic novel of Bangla literature that published in six volumes, these are- ‘Desh’ (1932), ‘Agyatobus’ (1933), ‘Kolonkabati’ (1934), ‘Dukhamochan’ (1936), ‘Marter Swargo’ (1940), ‘Aposoran’ (1942). These six volumes created an independent section in the creative novel composition in Bengali. However, he wrote several short stories at the time of writing these large novels. His notable storybooks are: ‘Prokitir Porihas’ (1934), ‘Dukan Kata’ (1944), ‘Hason Sakhi’ (1945), ‘Monpobon’ (1946), ‘Joubonjwala’ (1950), ‘Kaminikanchan’ (1954), ‘Ruper Day’ (1958), etc.
