In the last two decades, young writers and intellectuals of Upper Bengal have made outstanding efforts to unite the freedom-loving common people in the development of Bengali language fiction. They created – Bengal’s own literature. Although the creations and thoughts of Rabindranath, Nazrul, Saratchandra, Tarashankar, and Jibanananda have guided them, however, the literature created by them has shaped East Bengal’s own language and desire. Their hopes and aspirations have been fulfilled in many ways through short stories. In the last two decades, short stories have surprisingly given dignity to the literature of East Bengal. We, the Bengali-speaking people of this side of Bengal, have not been able to know the news of that joy for so long even though we are so close to Upper Bengal.
The collection has been presented to the readers of Bengali literature by compiling these stories of both Bengal young writers or representative local writers of the fifties and sixties. There are twelve stories of Bangladesh writers and nine stories of Indian writers in this book.
