Poet Tarapad Roy was a distinguished poet and delightful writer. This great author used to write under the pseudonym ‘Nakshatra Roy’ and ‘Granthakit’. He was born in the Tangail district of Bangladesh on November 17, 1933. He passed Matriculation in Bangladesh from Bindubasini High School. After that, he came to Calcutta to attend college in 1951 and studied Economics at Central Calcutta College (now Maulana Azad College) in Kolkata. For a time he taught at a school in Habra, North 24 Parganas.
He edited the magazines- ‘Purbamegh’ (1957), ‘Koyekjon’ (1968). His first poetry-book, ‘Tomar Pratima’ (Your idol), was published in 1958. His other poetry-books are- ‘Kothay Jachchhen Tarapada Babu’, ‘Nil Diganta Ekhon Magic’, ‘Daridrarekha’, ‘Bhalobasar Kabita’, ‘Tubeshishur Baba’, ‘Bhalo Achho Garib Manush’, ‘Kobi O Poroshilpi’, etc.
