A specific class of religious narrative-poetry was prevalent in Bengal Literature from the beginning of the thirteenth century and until the time of the eighteenth-century poet Bharat Chandra. Those are known as Mangal Kavya in the history of Bengali literature.
This Mangalkavya is a literary pursuit of a special era of Bangladesh. Not only the glory of the deities in the Mangalakavas; There is written the image of the life of a Bengali in beautiful language. The first origin of Mangalakavi was from the village public meeting but later it was fully established in the king’s assembly.
In the Middle Ages of Literature, one type of poetry was created to promote the worship of various deities and to spread their greatness. Those type of narrative-poetries is called Mangalkavya.
