This is a book of Visva-Bharati Research Books. Here in this book an attempt has been made to give an overall overview of the historical, ceremonial and theoretical aspects of ‘Shakti Sadhana’ (the pursuit of power). There is no other book with such research information on this subject before. There is no other book in Bengali with such research information on this subject before. Although there is no doubt that there are excellent discussions about Shakti Sadhana in books like ‘Tantratattva’, ‘Kaulmargarahasya’, ‘Tantric Guru’ etc. but there is no complete identification of this sadhana in any book.

There is a lot of discussions about ‘Shakti Sadhana’ in English. In this case, Woodruff’s (1865-1936) contribution is most memorable with the utmost respect and gratitude. He was a High Court judge in British India and was called the “Father of Modern Tantra Research”. Mainly as a result of his diligent efforts, the true form of a mystical pursuit of our country has been revealed to the English-educated people. But even in English books there is no continuous discussion of ‘Shakti Sadhana’ and it is difficult to find its full identity. Apart from that, these books are beyond the reach of those who do not know English.

In Tantra Shastra has details of Shakti Sadhana. But Tantra books written in the Sanskrit language are accessible to few people. The modern educated community of Bengal knows far less Sanskrit than English. Therefore, it is not possible for them to become aware of the subject of Shakti Sadhana by reading Tantra.

So through these two books, researcher-author Upendrakumar Das has tried to give a comprehensive overview of the historical, ritual and theoretical aspects of ‘Shakti Sadhana’ (the pursuit of power).
