Some words about the author Purabi Basu
Purabi Basu (born on September 21, 1949) is a Bengali scientist and feminist storyteller, poet and novelist. She is an exceptional writer in the literature of Bangladesh. She sheds light on feminist concepts and communal harmony in her writings. The number of her writing books is over forty. This author received the Ananya Sahitya award in 2005 and the Bangla Academy Award in 2014 for her contribution to literature.
But she is a scientist by profession. Her career began as a research supervisor at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, United States. Later taught at Cornell University, New York. She joined to Beximco Pharmaceutical after staying abroad for a long time. Then she served as the director of BRAC’s health department which is the largest NGO in Bangladesh.
Though she started writing from an early age, her first book ‘Purabi Basur Galpo’ was published from Somobay publishing in 1989. In her story and essay, she writes about the neglected and oppressed people of society and details of religious minorities and poor people. Her article ‘Prachya Puran O Prachye Puraton Nari’ was published in 2013. There are 13 articles in this book. Her famous novel ‘Amar e Dehokhani’ was published from Bengal Publications. The book is written about the men and masculinity, maternity and the mystery of the creation of men and women. Her first novel, ‘Abinashi Jatra’, was published in 2014. In this novel, she portrays the struggle of a woman living alone in exile.
