Badal Sarkar (July 15, 1925 – 13 May 2011) is an internationally renowned Bengali theatrical personality who is known as the proponent of the theater of a different genre called Third Theater. This great dramatist got the first acquaintance with the people for writing anti-government dramas during the Bengal Naxalite movement of the 1970s. His own drama team ‘Satabdi’ was formed in 1976. As the modern playwright in India, Badal Sarkar is the equal honorable person as well as Habib Tanvir, Bijoy Tendulkar, Mohan Rakesh, and Girish Karnad.
Badal Babu was born on 15th July 1925 in Kolkata. His name was Sudhindranath Sarkar in his school and college life. After completed the Bachelor of Science from Scottish Church College, he was admitted to Shibpur Bengal Engineering College and got the Civil Engineering degree and selected his profession as a Town Planner. After, he has worked as a Town Planner in India and in various countries.
He found out his intense interest in the literature and drama for that he was admitted to the Jadavpur University Comparative Literature class in his old age. And passed MA in this subject in 1992. After that this great person returned us many notable drama books.
