Eminent Bengali writer Bimal Kar was born on 3rd Ashwin 1328 (1921 in English). His childhood was spent in Jabbolpur, Hazaribagh, Gomo, Dhanbad, Asansol, and many places. Graduate from the University of Calcutta.
Career: worked in A.R.P in 1942 and
Literary Life: At first co-editor of ‘Parag’ Patrika, which edited by Manilal Bandyopadhyay. Later he was the sub-editor of ‘West Bengal’ and ‘Satyayug’ magazine. All these were between 1946 and 1952. He was associated with the weekly Patrika ‘Desh’ from 1954 to 1982. Besides, he was the editor of monthly magazine ‘Shiladitya’ from 1982 to 1984.
His first short story ‘Ambikanather Mukti’ was published in ‘Prabartak’ Patrika in 1944. And his first short story compilation ‘Baraf Saheber Meye’ was published in 1954. He created a famous fictional character for children, named Kikira who is the retired magician full name Kinkar Kishor Roy. There are several Films have been adapted based on his works as ‘Basanta Bilap’, ‘Balika Badhu’, ‘Jadubansa’, etc.
