Gajendra Kumar Mitra (born: 11 November 1908 – Died: 16 October 1994) born in Kolkata and was a Bengali novelist. His childhood education started in Kashi Anglo-Bengali School. Coming back to Kolkata and started living at Dhakuria and was admitted to Balliganj Jagabandhu Institution. He crosses the school life and then he was admitted to St. Xavier’s College. Shortly after the completion of school education, he started a monthly literary magazine ‘Kothasahitya’ with Sumathnath.

Gajendrakumar’s first published novel- ‘Mone Chhilo Asha’ and storybook- ‘Striyashcharitram’. His novel ‘Kolkatar Kachhei’ was honored by the Sahitya Academy Award in 1959. The trilogy – ‘Paush-Phaguner Pala’, ‘Upokanthe’, ‘Kolkatar Kachhei’ is considered to be the landmark of modern Bengali fiction. His novel ‘Paush-Phaguner Pala’ got the Rabindra Award in 1964.
