Upendra Nath Gangopadhyay was born on 20th October 1881 in Bhagalpur. He passed the Entrance Examination (1899) from Bhagalpur District School. Competed Fast Arts from St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata and BA from Presidency College. Then he got B.L. degree from University of Calcutta and started his career as a lawyer in Bhagalpur in 1913. He edited the monthly magazine ‘Bichitra’ from 1927 to 1941.

During the reading of Upendranath’s literature, it is particularly memorable that he was a writer of the transition period. And this prominent author was also a contemporary literary of Rabindranath, Sharat Chandra, Bhibhutibhushan, Annadashankar, Pramath Chowdhury, Achinta Kumar Sengupta.
Notable works are- Novels: ‘Shashinath’, ‘Rajpoth’, ‘Amultaru’, ‘Amla’, ‘Antarag’, ‘Dikshul’, ‘Bidushi Varga’, ‘Amola’, ‘Joutuk’, ‘Saat Din’, ‘Natun Lekhak’, ‘Lalir Prem’, ‘Ramer Sumati’, ‘Bechulal’, ‘Sabuj Math’, ‘Banyar Jol’, ‘Prerona’, Bonyar Jol’, etc.
Stories: ‘Boitanik’, ‘Belkuri’, ‘Bibhram’, ‘Shwshur-Raj’, ‘Kamanadebir Mandir’, ‘Hridoy Pariskha’, Samalochak’, ‘Pratishodh’, ‘Top’, ‘Jibanta-Pret’, ‘Utrog’, ‘Raatjaga’, ‘Damodarer Boitaranipar’, etc.
